Recognized for his uninhibited use of colour and patterns, Alexander Girard (1907-1993) is considered one of the greatest textile designers of his time. A contemporary of Charles and Ray Eames, Girard helped define the direction of modern design. From 1952 to 1973 he was the director of design for Herman Miller's textile division. He designed the interior of La Fonda del Sol restaurant in New York's Time Life Building, as well as every aesthetic aspect of Braniff Airlines, including the stationery and sugar packets.
